Play Handball Welwarts Volunteers Empower Kenyan Youth Through Sport

Play Handball Welwarts Volunteers have completed their transformative one-year placement in Kenya, leaving a lasting impact on youth across Juja, Korogocho, Buruburu, Mathare, Utawala, and Machakos County. Through handball training programs rooted in life skills education and environmental awareness, they reached hundreds of young people from underserved communities – bringing hope, resilience, and opportunity.

More Than a Game: Handball as a Tool for Life

At the heart of our programs is a powerful belief: sport can shape character and protect the planet. Handball became a dynamic platform to teach essential life skills such as:

  • Teamwork & Leadership
  • Conflict Resolution & Communication
  • Goal Setting & Self-Discipline

These sessions weren’t just about scoring goals, they were about building confident, capable changemakers.

Sport Meets Sustainability

In every community, the volunteers integrated environmental education into handball activities. Youth learned how to:

  • Reduce waste through recycling and upcycling handball equipment
  • Protect local ecosystems with clean-up campaigns and tree planting
  • Advocate for climate-conscious behavior in their schools and homes

By linking sport with sustainability, we empowered youth to become guardians of their environment.

Building a Movement for the Future

As the Play Handball Welwarts Volunteers wrap up their placement, the ripple effects continue. Local coaches, educators, and youth leaders are now equipped to carry forward the mission—combining sport, life skills, and environmental action to build stronger, greener communities.
