Who we are

About AYEP – Youth Empowerment through Sports and Sustainability in Kenya

At AYEP (Active Youth Empowerment Project Kenya), we believe in the power of youth to shape a better future. As a registered non-profit and the official implementing partner of Play Handball, we empower young people through sports, education, and environmental action.

Our focus is youth empowerment through sports and sustainability in Kenya—using handball and other sports to promote leadership, resilience, and environmental awareness. We work closely with communities to create safe spaces where youth can grow, learn, and lead.

AYEP is more than a project—it’s a movement for social and environmental change, driven by and for young people. Through sports for change and sustainability programs, we build a stronger, greener future for all.

At AYEP, we don’t just run projects. We build relationships, grow together, and create spaces where young people can thrive and lead.

Our Story

AYEP was founded in 2023 with a simple but powerful idea: to use sports as a tool to empower youth and protect the environment. What started as a small initiative has grown into a dynamic organization reaching hundreds of young people across Nairobi and beyond. Inspired by the energy and challenges of our own communities, we partnered with Play Handball to bring structured sport-for-development programs to schools and neighborhoods. Along the way, we’ve planted trees, organized clean-up campaigns, trained young leaders, and built lasting relationships. Every step we take is guided by the belief that change starts locally—with people who care and take action.

Our Vision

AYEP’s vision is to see empowered youth driving sustainable change through sports and purpose—leading the way toward a greener, more just world.
It reflects our belief that when young people are given safe, purpose-driven spaces and equipped with life skills, environmental awareness, and spiritual grounding, they can transform their communities. Our vision inspires us to nurture leaders who restore ecosystems, challenge inequality, and model ethical leadership, creating a future built on justice, sustainability, and shared dignit.

Our Mission

AYEP’s mission is to raise a generation of whole, equipped, and ethical youth—especially from historically excluded communities—through life skills, climate action, and spiritual resilience.
We work to develop the mind, body, and spirit of young people, ensuring they have the tools, values, and confidence to lead positive change. By integrating personal development, environmental stewardship, and inclusive empowerment, our mission commits us to preparing youth not only to adapt to challenges but to actively shape a more equitable and sustainable future.

Core Values

AYEP’s core values guide everything we do, shaping how we serve and empower young people. We are committed to holistic development, nurturing the mind, body, and spirit as one. We believe in inclusive empowerment, ensuring that girls, young women, and youth with disabilities have equal opportunities to lead. Our work champions environmental stewardship, caring for the planet through youth-led climate action, and upholds gender justice as a foundation for fairness and equity. We draw strength from spiritual grounding, promote youth-driven innovation, and thrive through community collaboration, building lasting change together.
